International Depositary Authorities (IDAs) meeting in Gran Canaria

Next July 27 & 28, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University (ULPGC) will host the International Depositary Authorities (IDAs) meeting. This event is organized by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and ULPGC’s Spanish Bank of Algae (BEA-FCPCT) as International Deposit Authority of microalgae and cyanobacteria since 2005, in accordance to Budapest Treaty.

The meeting will take place at Taliarte’s science and technology park and will be opened by the Director General of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, Mrs. Patricia García-Escudero, the Acting Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization Patent Law Division, Mr. Marco Alemán, and the ULPGC’s Dean, Mr. José Regidor García.

This meeting will be attended by representatives of the 32 worldwide accredited collections, including The Australian National Measurement Institute (NMI), China Center for Type Culture Collection (CCTCC), American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), Russian Collection of Microorganisms (VKM) and the Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT).

The purpose of the event is to provide to current IDAs a forum of discussion and exchange of experiences about administrative and technical aspects in the microorganism deposit process for industrial patents development.

On this event, the representatives of the IDAs will visit the Spanish Bank of Algae at Taliarte (Telde) to learn about the facilities and projects that take place inside.
