Pablo Sangrà received the Marine Science diploma from the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1988 and the Ph.D. degree in Physical Oceanography from the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1995. Part of his Ph.D was done in Université de Liège (Belgium) and in the Chesapeake Bay Institute (USA). From 2004, he is Associate Professor at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He started his research in mesoscale variability in the Canary Basin Region both from and observational and modeling approach. Later on he pursued his studies on mesoscale variability on the Antarctica Region. Since the beginning he paid especial attention on the physical biological coupling. In this regard most of his published work is interdisciplinary. In 2011 he carried out a sabbatical year at Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics of the University of California Los Angeles collaborating with the group of professor James McWilliams where it was introduced to the study of submesoscale variability. He has been involved in several national projects as PI and several European research projects as collaborator. He is author of more than 50 peer-review papers with an h-index of 19. As a result his major contributions are the first description of the Canary Eddy Corridor, of the Bransfield Current System (Antarctica) and of the underlying mechanisms involved in the coupling between the upper ocean layer variability and size-fractionated phytoplankton in a non-nutrient-limited environment.
