Presentation of LIGCanarias project

In February of this year, the 1st Conference on the Geological Heritage of the Canary islands (I Jornada Patrimonio Geológico de Canarias) was held. Organised by the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME), its aim was to present the project LIGCanarias which it leads. The objective of this project is to typify and appraise the value of geological sites in the Canary Islands, recognising that awareness of the natural processes responsible for generating the environment in which we live represents an essential element in cultural and economic development. To this end, a catalogue listing the main sites of geological interest is to be drawn up which will also include those areas that have evolved through erosion and sedimentation processes.
