Scientists at ULPGC lead a study on the effects of underwater volcano of El Hierro on the pelagic community

Researchers at the Institute of Oceanography and Global Change (IOCAG) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) lead a scientific study that sheds new light on the underwater volcanic eruption on the island of El Hierro.

The study is subscribed by researchers from ULPGC Alejandro Vicente Ariza, Juan Carlos Garijo, Javier Arístegui and Santiago Hernández León, together with researchers from the Red Sea Research Center (Saudi Arabia) Stein Kaartvedt and Anders Rostad, and one investigator from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) Eugenio Fraile Nuez. This paper is titled The Submarine Volcano Eruption off El Hierro Island: Effects on the Scattering Migrant Biota and the Evolution of the Pelagic Communities and has been published in the month of July 2014 in the international scientific journal PLoS ONE.
