Seminars at the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global

Last Friday, February 16th, we had a new seminar at the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global. Our colleague, Dr. Juan Luis Gómez Pinchetti, presented his lecture entitled: "Sustainable algae production in a global change scenario."

Seminars at the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global

Last Friday, January 26th, we had a new seminar at the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global. Our colleague, Dr. Javier Marcello Ruiz, presented his lecture entitled: "High resolution multi-platform remote sensing for the monitoring of natural areas."

After Christmas holidays the seminars have started again

After Christmas holidays we continue with the seminars.

Last Friday, January 12th, our colleague Dr. Marta Sebastian Caumel continued with the cycle of seminars with her lecture: "Microbial oceanography through a molecular lens"

Seminars at the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global

Dr. Aridane González González started the cycle of seminars.

On December 1st, our colleague Dr. Aridane González González, with his lecture entitled: “Fe-organic binding ligands” started the cycle of seminars at the Instituto de Oceanografía y Cambio Global.

PhD research presentations: Laia Armengol & Isabel Baños

Last Friday we had two new PhD presentations. Laia Armengol talked about factors influencing microzooplankton grazing on phytoplankton. A summary of her work. On the other hand, Isabel's research tries to answer the question "Are tetrazolium salts a reliable proxy to assess in vivo respiratory activity in natural bacterial communities?".

New PhD student presentations

Next Friday we will have two new PhD presentations. This time will be the turn of Nicolás Ferrer and Nauzet Hernández. Nicolás will talk about the Canary Islands's coasts and its geomorphology, morphodiversity and the human interactions. A summary of his work. Nauzet will talk about how high CO2 and nutrient fertilization enhance primary production and biomass in subtropical phytoplankton communities.

Dr. Federico Baltar's lecture next Friday 28th

Dr. Federico Baltar, researcher at the Department of Marine Science of the University of Otago, will visit us next Friday 28th to give a lecture to IOCAG's PhD students. The lecture is entitled “What ‘really’ controls the activity and diversity of heterotrophic bacterioplankton?” and talks about ‘classical’ bottom-up and top-down factors affecting heterotrophic bacterioplankton populations, followed by some other novel factors that might be important drivers of present and future bacterioplankton communities.

PhD research presentations: Maite Baez & Silvia Rodríguez

Last Friday we had two new PhD presentations. First, Maite Baez explained her research about carbon dioxide (CO2) system in 4 coastal regions: Tagoro volcano nearest El Hierro after the eruption, the Western Mediterranean Sea at the OBSEA platform and the Mar Menor and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea at Crete Island. A summary of her work.

PhD research presentation: "Analysis of the role of the vegetation cover in the beach-dune systems of the Canary Islands as a basis for improving their management"

Last Friday we had Leví's PhD presentation.

He analyzed the impact of urban-touristic development in four aeolian sedimentary systems in the Canaries: Maspalomas, Corralejo, Lambra and Jable Sur from, and from great scale only in Maspalomas, using the vegetation coverage as indicator. You can read a summary of his work here.
